In Battlezone, you take the pilot seat of alien tech hovertanks (and could even get out on foot), while also having command over construction vehicles, to build up a base, defenses, and new tanks. Think similar to Savage 1/2 but sci fi and with hover tanks and mechanical walkers (and a bit more options on the RTS side). that was also a full real time strategy game.
